so personally, i'm having a crisis of faith. i was raised christian. i know i need to have faith in something, but what?|
how do you begin the search for something to believe/have faith in?
hmmm, that's a difficult question for me too. raised catholic, abandoned it pretty young, and now i seem to be replacing religion with love. but everyone says that putting so much pressure on one person isn't healthy. so i don't know....
why do you have to have faith in something besides yourself?
if i have no faith or hope in anything, then why should i go on living?
you dont have to have faith in a higher being to go on living that is why i asked why you need faith in anything other than yourself. You need faith that you can reach great hieghts, you need faith that you worth all the greatest joys in life, you need faith that you can be a good person with succesful relationships with family and friends. You dont need to believe in a god for all of that. Religious faith is a way to channel that faith into something that is greater than themselves because they feel that is too much responsibility to handle on their own. They feel that if the success in life and happiness is in their hands they will mess up. You need faith in yourself before you attempt to search for something that may or may not be true.
Good luck though in whatever you do. I have "faith" in you.
thanks for the words of wisdom/encouragement.
What about the faith in an opportunity for a better tomorrow? Something along the lines of having faith in humanity (although, it's hard most of the time)? That's lame, maybe. I don't know. If what you're looking for is organized religion, I don't think that's for sure what you need. Or what I need, we need, anyone needs. Sorry, I am making little to no sense, but your search is making me think, and that's a nice change of pace.
Personally, I know a lot of people who were "raised Christian" but never really accepted it as their own. And they went through a journey of discovering whether that was or wasn't them.
My point being that just because you were raised in it, doesn't mean it's the thing you have to rule out. And Christianity isn't as rigid as the media makes it seem... it's one religion that I think goes hand in hand with who you are and how you can best serve in this world.
Yeah, I know it's preachy, I'm just trying to encourage you not to write it off. I may be jumping to conclusions, but it sounds like you've seen hypocrisy and all that other Chrisitan childhood "jazz" that makes people hate the whole church because of the ones they've seen.
